A day at school
From arrival to dismissal
The rhythm is the same in every grade, so students know what comes next.
- 8:30 a.m.
Arrival and morning meeting
A teacher greets each student at the door. The class sits together, reads the plan for the day and says what each person would like from it.
- 9:00 a.m.
Reading groups
Students read with a teacher in groups of a few. Others read alone, write in a notebook or listen to a story.
- 10:45 a.m.
Math and science
Short lessons, then work at a table with a teacher close by. Anyone can ask for more time.
- 12:15 p.m.
Lunch and time outdoors
A long lunch and a break outdoors in most weather. The quiet room is open for anyone who wants it.
- 1:15 p.m.
Projects and art
Writing, science and art projects that run over several weeks, with time to show the work to the class.
- 3:15 p.m.
A read-aloud and dismissal
A story read aloud, then a teacher walks each student to the right car or bus.
